New Year Reform

New year resolutions are not an individual thing anymore. Even organizations take a fancy to them. And, when the company management resolves to do something, it doesn't fail in its resolve. My company boasts of a free work culture and of promoting a sense of well-being among its employees. But, well-being cannot be stretched to employee welfare. There is a thin line that divides them and has to be appreciated.

This new year marks a change in the attitude of the organization. Now, the cafeteria will not serve as a lounge and the time spent playing TT and carrom cannot pass for research in the timesheet. The movement to the cafeteria will now be controlled by a swipe card. And, employees will also have to manage their social contacts over the phone from their seats and not from the privacy of the cafeteria. Please inform your fiancé about this and ask them not to prolong their phone calls. People who got engaged and married while at Clarion report that they have hardly anything left to talk about post-marriage. This is a serious concern. The new reform will even take care of this.

Some employees are sulking at this move, especially those who were about to perfect their smashes and returns. They need to understand that company does not benefit in any way out of their passion for the game or their physical fitness. A section of employees who are indifferent to these games see this as God's decree putting an end to their agony of watching others enjoying their time in the office. The reform must have been incited by of one these embittered hearts.

Many days from now when employees look at the cafeteria they would remember the happy times when they used to run into its relaxing space like a kid running into the comforting lap of its mother. It would wear a deserted look from tomorrow! It would take sometime to reconcile ourselves to the great distance that fell between us today. But, it will definitely augur well for the company. At least the two office boys will find ample time to perfect their game.

I would like to bring before the management other grey areas that need attention to ensure 100% productivity. I invariably meet a few colleagues during my frequent visits to the loo. One day, two days,.... but always cannot be a coincidence. I find them loitering there without going about the business expected of them. I think this behaviour can either be attributed to the life-size mirror or it is that our biological clocks are in perfect synchronism.

A microphone in the conference room can keep a tab on the what goes on in the team meetings. Because I have always noticed people flocking to the conference room with a smile on their lips and walking out grudgingly. What do you I make of it?

In this world what works most is the 'Give and Take' relationships. It is true even in case of care, empathy, help and love. When you show that you really care and it is evident through your actions, you will in return get the same.
Productivity sometimes becomes a vague term. Because time spent on research, extra time required due to slow internet connections, and for discussions can not be always justified. so, it is considered that there will be some time alloted for these activities.
Employees will give the best results when they get what they want. They want freedom and a healthy atmosphere to work in. They want the organizations to truly think of their welfare. When this happens employees wait to complete tasks without complaints. Efficiency increases. Productivity truly improves and Employee Turn Over ratio keeps on decreasing. Organization becomes a place for others to look ahead to work for.
There are many things which can be done and not all the things need money or investment. In fact, money wasted in lots of other useless activities should be spared to use for these activities. These activities are Diwali Bonus, Health Insurances, Loyalty Bonus, Salary structure redesigning in such a way that employees get maximum tax exemption.
Employee welfare is a very sensitive activity. Please don't try to fool them by offering nuts or showing concern. Because in times of over load or better opportunities even organization might also get the same concern, but not the contribution from employees.
